Kibin Editing Segments and Classifications

As of June 2022, Kibin offers six different types of editing services: Admissions Editing, Student Editing, Academic Editing, Business Editing, Career and Resume (Applicant) Editing, and Author and Creative Editing. On the back end, these categories are known as “segments” of the editing service.

In the past, users were “locked in” to a specific segment -- such as student, individual, or business -- when they signed up, and all of their documents were filtered through that segment. To cater to a wider variety of editing needs, our system now allows users to segment each document they upload. There are several benefits:

  1. Users aren’t locked into a pricing structure or a segment they might outgrow.
  2. Many users will fall into multiple segments.
  3. We will have the ability to adjust pricing for certain categories of documents, such as resumes and CVs or admissions essays, without charging more for entire user segments.

All documents that come through the editing queue are categorized by segment (service) and classification (type of document). The doc details modal shows the document’s segment and classification under Classification Type.

One of the six segments will always be listed first, followed by the type of document from the chart below. Note that each document type can only appear under one segment. We created the document classifications based on trends in editing orders from our new users and high spenders, but will likely add more classifications as time goes on. If their classification is not listed, the author will write in the type of document and it will be displayed in the “Classification Other” section.

Segment Access

Not all editors can “see” documents from all segments on their dashboard. At present, only business documents are limited to a select team of editors.

More information on how you gain, lose, or maintain access to specific segments will be published at a later date.

Misclassification -- Help us help you!

Part of this new system is making sure that documents end up in the right place. Editors can and should flag documents that are misclassified. Because pricing between editing segments is varied, it's important for you to flag misclassified docs to ensure that you're paid the correct document rate. Flagging misclassified docs also helps Kibin admins find the "grey areas" between services that may need further clarification or other document types we need to list for users.

How to flag a misclassified doc

The table above gives you a general idea of what documents should fall into which segment. If you feel like a document does not fit the segment it’s listed under, please flag the document using the "Misclassified" option on the flag modal and use the description box to tell us the correct document type or segment.

What happens to misclassified documents?

In most cases, misclassified documents will likely need to be deleted and re-uploaded into the queue to account for the price difference between segments. (We do warn users at upload that their order may be delayed or cancelled if the document is submitted to the wrong editing segment.) Although the document will be deleted from your queue, it will be re-assigned to you once the user completes the additional payment.
The only documents that will not be immediately deleted from your queue are short clocks (>12 hours) that come through when no admins are on duty from roughly 9 pm to 9 am EST. Please flag these and then edit as usual -- unless you hear otherwise from an admin after you submit the flag, of course. We’ll make sure to manually adjust your cash balance post-submission to account for any payout differences.

**Unless you are told otherwise by an admin, please edit all misclassified documents and return by the original due date, even if you flag them.**
