Scope: What to Do if a User Asks You to Write or Rewrite Part of an Essay
Sometimes an author will ask us to go above and beyond editing. The author may ask for writing services with questions like:
- Can you help me add content?
- Can you add a paragraph about XXXX after the third paragraph?
- Can you read my teacher’s comments and write new content in response?
- Can you rewrite this document in your own voice?
In most cases, you should edit the document as you normally would. You can offer suggestions to the author about content that he or she might add, but don’t write or rewrite it. In your closing comments, let the author know that we are not a writing service; because we are an editing service, we don’t actually write content, but rather, we edit existing content.
Not sure what to say? You can copy/paste this response:
Thanks for using Kibin! While I’ve made comments in parts of your essay about ways you can develop your ideas and add new content, please note that we are not a writing service; we are an editing service. This means we can’t and don’t write content, but we edit and improve existing content. Thanks for your understanding.
*Note* if the author is asking you to completely write something and does not have much original content to edit, you should flag the document for review by Kibin administrators.
