Understanding the Kibin Editing Queue

As a bona fide Kibin editor, you have access to what we call the editing queue, which is the main component of your editing dashboard. Congrats! You’ve already been navigating it.

On busy editing days at Kibin, this dominant block of space transforms into a succulent list of available editing requests ready to be devoured by your insatiable editing appetite. Here’s a preview of what you’ll see and a description of each section:

Types

Kibin divides documents into three different editing types: Clarity, Stylistic, and Final Cut (you'll hear these referred to as "Editing Distinctions"). Taking note of this distinction is important as it gives you an idea of how to frame your editing style. More on that here

Also under Types is the turnaround type, style guide (MLA, APA, Chicago, other, or none), and type of English (Australian, UK, or US). This helps you determine which grammar and language rules to apply to the document.

Sometimes you will see an 'n/a' under Types, which means the author has not updated the document details or indicated a preference. The author may add this information within a few minutes of placing their order; if they do, it will populate on your dashboard. If there is no information in this section, simply edit using your best judgment. We default to Chicago style for grammar in these cases.

Title

The current document title. Hovering your mouse will give you the full title if it’s too long to display. A yellow star emoji 🌟 next to the title indicates a first-time user.

Notes

Clicking the notepaper icon pulls up the doc details modal, which you should read before every edit. This modal houses all important document-specific details, like the editing segment and doc type, and supplemental materials you might need. You can also flag documents and direct message the client from this modal.

Words

This is the length of the document in words. Did I really need to type that? Probably not.

Earnings

Ahhh yes... cold, hard cash! This is what you will earn from editing the document. You’ll notice two values: cash and Leaderboard (LB) points. Learn all about the leaderboard here.

Due In

Simply put, this is the deadline in hours and minutes for the paper to be edited and submitted. Exceed this, and you’ll probably be beheaded. That’s a messy process; let’s avoid it. Open up the doc details modal for the exact time and date the document is due (based on the time zone in your Kibin settings, not your computer clock).

Download

Clicking this button immediately downloads and locks the document as yours; no other editors will be able to see it in their queue. Here’s how your dashboard will look when you lock a document:

Clicking “Cancel” will trigger a pop-up window to confirm you’d like to drop the document. Clicking "OK" releases the document back into the queue, making it accessible to other editors once again.

Note that after you download a document once, you can download the file again by clicking on the doc title or download icon. If you do this, be sure to save only one copy of the document to be edited to avoid sending the user a blank, unedited document.

Finish

When you’re done editing, click the “Finish” button to upload your completed document, leave closing comments, and submit it to be returned to the user.

Flag

If you find something wrong with a document (e.g., it’s not written in English, it contains only a prompt, etc.) or that it's misclassified, you can easily alert Team Kibin by flagging it. We’ll take a look and remove it from the queue as needed. Read more about flagging here.
